About the artist...

Hope Morrow Glidden was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and grew up in Milford. She graduated from Jonathan Law, and while in high school, began taking courses in cartooning from the "Famous Artists of Westport, Connecticut." Prior to moving to California in 1970, she created hundreds of cartoons.

While in California, Hope continued to draw cartoons. A longtime friend suggested that she should try her hand at painting, and so this self-taught artist began her new career.

In 1984, she returned to Connecticut, and in 1986 displayed her work in shows on the Milford Green, and in local banks. From 1992 to 1994, Hope studied with Frank Covino, a noted artist of the classical tradition from Waitsfield, Vermont. During this time, Hope continued to work on color and technique, learning to paint in the fashion of the Masters.

Hope paints on hand-stretched linen instead of canvas, and her paintings have complete verdaccio underpaintings. This provides more realistic skin tones when painted and glazed.

Hope and her husband Dexter, along with an Australian Shephard named Beau, reside in Summit, New York (near Cooperstown). Her studio is full of huge paintings .
